Job Description
Role Overview
As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the ownership and development of the Systems Definition for a line of AB Dynamics automotive test equipment. This includes a range of products from track testing solutions (driving robots and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) target products) to laboratory-based testing equipment (SPMM, ANVH, SSTM).
You will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality products that meet both customer requirements and industry standards. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including mechanical, hardware, and software engineering, project management, applications engineering, and quality assurance—will be vital to your success.

What will you be doing?
- Systems Design and Development:
- Drive the design and development of innovative automotive test equipment systems from concept to production.
- Define requirements, system architecture, and interface specifications based on customer needs and industry standards.
- Collaborate with mechanical, hardware, and software engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of subsystems.
- Perform risk analysis, manage technical trade-offs, and resolve engineering challenges.
- Analyse customer and market needs to align product development with the evolving automotive testing landscape.
- Ensure systems comply with relevant standards and regulations, participating in certification processes as necessary.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems engineering processes, tools, and best practices.
- Requirements Definition:
- Work closely with stakeholders to define and document system requirements, ensuring a clear understanding of functionality, performance, and safety criteria.
- Conduct regular reviews and updates of requirements based on evolving project needs and industry standards.
- Ensure traceability of requirements through design, verification, and validation.
- Safety and Reliability:
- Implement safety mechanisms and redundancy strategies to enhance the robustness and reliability of systems.
- Collaborate with team members to conduct hazard analysis and develop safety cases for product functions.
- Lead FMEA analysis to proactively identify, assess, and prioritise potential failures to reduce risk and improve reliability.
- Project Management:
- Take ownership of your project deliverables, managing your own time, tasks, and priorities effectively within the broader project scope.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to develop realistic timelines, identify task dependencies, and plan your workload to meet key milestones.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to refine project scope and deliverables.
- Clearly communicate technical updates, risks, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders and team leads.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Create comprehensive technical documentation, including system requirements, design specifications, and test plans.
- Prepare regular progress reports, presenting findings, recommendations, and project status updates.
Qualifications
What are we looking for?
- A technical background – most likely an Engineering degree or similar.
- Experience with systems engineering methodologies (e.g., V-model, MBSE).
- Familiarity with tools such as Jama, Sparx Enterprise Architect, and Jira.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex systems.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality products.
- Familiarity with automotive standards, protocols, and test methodologies is highly desirable.
