The Role: As a buyer in this role, you will be responsible for setting and executing current/future sourcing strategies, leading procurement of transportation services for material between GM suppliers and assembly centers across U.S, Canada, and Mexico. The buyer is expected to issue RFQ’s, analyze bids, negotiate and award of logistics service contracts, and metrics reporting. In addition, the Logistics Purchasing Buyer will be responsible for resolution of commercial issues, drive continuous improvement, provide innovative ideas to streamline processes and develop savings opportunities. In this role, you will work closely with an extended GM Team, service providers, 3PL’s and GM plants to ensure the achievement of cost, performance, and organization’s targets. What You’ll Do (Responsibilities): Develop and execute Truck and Intermodal procurement strategy based on detailed internal purchase requirements and market trends Collaborate with GM Legal staff to develop terms and conditions specific to transportation services (including negotiating price, duration, terms and conditions, etc.) Create and manage Quality Bid list, Carrier Performance, Sourcing Pipeline, Business Over Time strategy, Compliance Desktop, Export Compliance, TPSR, Sustainability, Benchmarking data, etc. Improve supplier relationships through collaboration, mutual waste elimination and relationship building tools such as the Strategic Supplier Engagement program (SSE) Participate in supplier KPI reviews and Conduct Quarter business reviews. Utilize the GPSC sourcing process to manage sourcing packages (RFQ, quote analysis and award) and to establish a capable/competitive domestic supply base Analyze and apply appropriate tools, e.g., benchmarking, competitive sourcing, targeted sourcing, bundling, supplier negotiations etc. to drive best total enterprise cost Perform rate management activities including contract amendments, issuing spot buys, rate analysis and supplier requests. Develop in-depth analysis on contract and overall business impact, budget activities. Drive decision alignment with cross-functional disciplines (Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, Logistics Engineering/Planning/Operations) Resolve commercial issues, drive continuous improvement, provide innovative ideas to streamline processes and develop savings opportunities. Identify problems, create, update, or modify work task instruction sheets that may be complex in the work area to support new buyer training. Support and lead additional required projects as assigned by management. Keep abreast of current industry developments and trends in areas of expertise Adhere to corporate purchasing and accounting policies and procedures Execute deliverables in support of the logistics organization's business objectives. Promote GM's values and makes customer-focused decisions. Yours Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications): 5+ years relevant post-graduate work experience in purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, logistics or product development Ability to work independently and self-directed Demonstrates strong personal initiative Exceptional business acumen Strong personal drive to learn, grow and develop Ability to build positive relationships with demanding cross-functional stakeholders Professional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills High level of organizational skills to prioritize, handle multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously, and meet deadlines Strong analytical ability to solve complex problems Experience managing commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance Expertise in MS Office tools: Excel, PowerPoint, Word Ability to travel 25% of the time domestically + Internationally What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications): Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, related field Experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) modeling or related experience
