Job Purpose
The Metrology Layout Technician is responsible for performing precise measurements and layout inspections using advanced metrology equipment to match engineering specifications. This role supports Production Engineering Business Unit Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Units by verifying dimensional accuracy.
Layout Technician will measure, repair (if possible), and report part quality from machine shop and fabrication suppliers. Includes creating, submitting, documenting and tracking NCCANs (non-confirming documentation) and CMRs.
Layout Technician will layout and adjust jigs, tooling, and machine transfer quality at Production Engineering Business Unit (tool-side) and at the production facilities (machine-side). Work in conjunction with other technicians and/or contractors, making adjustments as required to the jigs, tooling, and machine transfers to achieve equipment quality standards. Layout/certification will be performed using hand tools, Romer Arms, and Leica long range laser trackers. Quality reports will provide accurate and concise measurement results for certification documentation, evaluation and equipment maturation activity.
Layout Technician will work in conjunction for other units to assist in root cause analysis for non-conforming parts, jigs, and machine tooling.
Key Accountabilities
Interpret drawings, specifications, and 3D models to determine measurement requirements
Programs/set-up operates Romer tracker and Leica long-range laser tracker to measure/adjust/repair/confirm parts, jigs, tooling, and machine transfer quality
Generates accurate and concise reports of quality measurements for easy evaluation
Communicate all aspects of measurements to technicians/leadership/customer from set-up, layout, alignment, and results
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum Experience Desired:
2 Years of Related Experience in Manufacturing and/or Quality, or related qualifying degree
Other Job-Specific Skills
Effective communication, under some supervision, relies on experience and exercises independent judgement to determine best approach to achieve desired outcomes
Blueprint reading, following standards, Microsoft Office, high computer skills
Familiar with Romer Arms and Laser Tracker metrology equipment and software
Working Conditions
50% working within climate-controlled environment / 50% line-side at all North America Production Facilities (investigation and installs).
Must be willing to travel 30% of the time.
Overtime weekly, working off-shifts, and weekend/shutdown activity as required to achieve project targets.
