The Role
As a valued member of the Energy Storage Materials team, you will drive innovation through next-generation ideas, propose new research areas, and establish technical plans for advanced batteries targeting EV and other energy storage applications. You will design and synthesize novel materials, perform material-level characterization and analysis, integrate cells, conduct failure and root-cause analyses, and optimize performance. Additionally, you will prepare high-quality technical reports, external publications, and records of invention in your research area.
What You'll Do
- Develop novel materials for advanced battery technology with corresponding evaluation, characterization, and data analysis
- Design and integrate battery cells; perform cell-level evaluation
- Optimize battery cell performance (e.g., formation protocols)
- Conduct failure mode and root cause analyses
- Summarize research results in reports, journal publications, and conference presentations
- Initiate innovative concepts and research projects
- Design and execute experiments to solve technical problems
- Collaborate with internal and external partners
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Ph.D. in Science or Engineering
- Demonstrated background in battery-related research and development
- Experience with battery component material development (e.g., active material or electrolyte)
- In-depth knowledge of state-of-the-art energy storage technologies
- Ability to generate innovative ideas, propose, plan, and execute research projects
- Strong experimental design and execution skills for material development
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Effective communication and ability to lead technical discussions
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Hands-on experience with chemical or material characterization
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- 3–5 years of experience in material or cell-level battery development
- Hands-on experience with battery materials handling, synthesis, modification, and characterization
- Experience with larger battery cell formats (pouch, cylindrical)
- Background in cell fabrication and testing
