The Role:
The Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC), Supervisory controls software team has an opening for a Scrum Leader in the Vehicle states and Modes Agile Release Train (ART), a production level group that supports the definition, design, and development of Drive mode requirements and controls software .
In this role, you will directly impact GM vehicles and the customer experience as these are customer on demand features!
We are seeking creative, highly motivated, agile thinkers with passion and expertise in controls and software and with great attention to detail. The selected candidate will lead a scrum team (10-15 engineers) in designing and implementing technical software solutions for VMEC features utilizing the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and appropriate processes and methods and lead the growth in capability of controls methods to keep General Motors at the technological forefront. In the role of Scrum Leader, you will manage the team’s workload and capacity, collaborate with multiple areas of the business, and guide the teams collective work output, innovation, and growth.
Customer facing features of the ART: Drive modes, Power moding, Propulsion State Active, Uplifter Vehicle Module, Power Throttle Override, Pet Mode, Teen Driver, Valet Mode, Police Pursuit Vehicle features.
What You’ll Do:

Be the servant leader, lean-agile leader, and coach for a Scrum Team on the ART
-
50% capacity requires developing and delivering software in Embedded C. 50% capacity would perform as Scrum Lead role per agile.

Plan and manage the team’s workload and capacity, including developers – SW Engineers (SWE) and Controls Design Engineers (CDE) – Sub-System Lead Engineers (SSLEs), and SW Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineers

Facilitate Scrum team meetings, such as daily stand ups (DSU), Iteration Planning, Iteration Review, Peer and Code Reviews, Retrospectives

Facilitate Scrum team activities and present to the ART during ART ceremonies such at Inspect and Adapt, including System Demos, and Program Increment (PI) Planning

Escalate problems to the right people at the right time, but only after team’s internal attempts

Collaborate with the ART Release Train Engineer (RTE), SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), and other Scrum Leads on matters of SAFe and VMEC processes and metrics as well as ART and Scrum meetings, including Scrum of Scrums, ART Sync, and Scrum CoP

Encourage the team to relentlessly improve through education and innovation; prepare or manage innovation activities for the scrum team during the Innovation and Planning (I&P) sprint

Collaborate with ART Program Management Team (PMT) members such as Test Architect (TA), SW System Architect (SWSA), Safety Design System Architect (SDSA), Technical Specialist (TS), and Functional System Architects (FSA), particularly in matters of workload management and scrum team capacity

Support the scrum team and Scrum Manager in estimating Story Points (a measure of effort to complete the task) for each Story, and coach the team on workload and capacity estimation for predictability

Support the team on balancing Enabler and Technical Debt ART Features and Stories with those that deliver Business Value

Support the team and Scrum Manager in completing PI Objectives

Promote team cooperation and inclusion – the scrum team together owns team deliverables, which include production SW, test results, and more

Work day-to-day with the scrum team and individual developers to complete deliverables with high quality and predictable timing

Continuously challenge the team’s normal ways of development to improve areas of quality, predictability, flow, and velocity, including the application of automation
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other applicable Engineering focuses

5+ years of experience with proven embedded software development

Ability to set and balance priorities efficiently

Ability to facilitate meetings and drive a positive team culture

Strong ability to function within and drive change

Understanding of GM Vehicle Development Process

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results

MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other applicable Engineering focuses

8+ years of experience with proven embedded software development

In-depth knowledge of algorithm/software development and calibration of vehicle controls

Knowledge of Electrification

Proficient in C or C++

Proficient in model-based development (MATLAB/Simulink)

SAFe Scrum Lead or Product Owner certified

Experience with Jira, Jira Align, and git EcoSystem
