Principal Technical Program Manager, AV Platform Core
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Technical Innovation Center in Sunnyvale, CA three times per week, at minimum.
As a Principal Technical Program Manager (TPM) supporting AV Platform Core organization, you will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of programs that span OS, middleware frameworks, and system integration with vehicle compute and sensor platforms. You will work cross-functionally with hardware, software, cloud, and safety teams to define clear milestones, de-risk dependencies, and ensure scalable delivery across multiple vehicle platforms.
The ideal candidate is both technical and execution-driven, capable of translating deep engineering requirements into actionable plans, while anticipating integration challenges across embedded, cloud, and vehicle ecosystems.
What You’ll Do

Drive end-to-end program management for SW platform – from early hardware bring-up through production readiness and OTA validation.

Partner closely with software architects, kernel and middleware developers, and vehicle integration teams to define milestones, success criteria, and system readiness.

Establish cross-functional execution plans that span compute, sensors, cloud, and safety compliance.

Manage schedules, risks, and cross-team dependencies across multiple engineering pillars (AVHW, AVSW, Cloud, Safety, Vehicle Integration).

Lead program reviews, and readiness gates to ensure alignment across GM and external vendor engineering organizations.

Collaborate with the safety team to maintain and scale compliance frameworks (ASIL, ISO 26262).

Support QNX platform sustainment while accelerating migration to CruiseOS (CO2).

Leverage data and metrics to track progress, identify bottlenecks, and drive continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with engineering, research, and product teams to define requirements, prioritize features, and deliver solutions supporting AI development velocity.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

15+ years of technical program management experience, including 5+ years working on data, AI/ML, robotics, or autonomous systems

5+ direct experience in Level 4 Autonomy

Hardware and SW backgrounds as program manager and engineering

BS or MS in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field

Proven track record of managing complex cross-functional programs involving hardware, embedded software, and data pipelines

Strong systems thinking with ability to connect high-level architecture to on-the-ground execution details

Exceptional communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills

Deep familiarity with Agile program delivery, Jira, Confluence, and technical development workflows

Familiarity with SmartSheets, fleet ops tooling, and large-scale vehicle deployment workflows

Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or MBA with technical focus

Experience in the automotive industry, especially with AI-enhanced platforms

Experience with developing from scratch and scaling engineering or operational processes

Prior leadership of AV platform and middleware programs within a Fortune 500 or high-growth tech company
Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

The salary range for this role is $234,000 to $358,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
