The research is carried out in cooperation with the University of of Berlin and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Emmanuel Baccelli. We are offering a doctoral thesis dealing with in-depth scientific research regarding cryptographic primitives, iterative measured/secured boot techniques, encrypted firmware, crypto-agility, and constrained network technologies. This research requires knowledge about eSIM environment, tampering-proofness, and resilience requirements, including but not limited to CRA. The project involves collaboration with other researchers in the domains of connected sensors, and embedded AI, as well as collaboration with open-source software communities. Key responsibilities in your new role Research in system design: investigation of different approaches to combine embedded software design using open-source Rust building blocks, low-power communication and post-quantum cryptography Development of techniques: development of secure continuous software deployment techniques applicable to versatile network transport mediums and diverse embedded hardware Viability Analysis: analysis of the feasibility of the deployment of such a system in an industrial context Prototyping and Demonstration: set up of demonstration systems by developing real working prototypes, in the context of national and European funded projects gathering both industrial and academic partnersThe learnings out of the thesis will lead to: Advanced Cryptographic Knowledge: in-depth scientific research regarding cryptographic primitives, crypto-agility, and post-quantum cryptography implementation in embedded systems with constrained resources Secure Boot and Deployment Expertise: development of iterative measured/secured boot techniques and encrypted firmware deployment methods applicable across diverse embedded hardware and network transport mediums Industrial Security Standards Compliance: knowledge about eSIM environments, tampering-proofness, and resilience requirements including compliance with regulations like the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) Cross-disciplinary Collaboration Skills: experience collaborating with researchers in connected sensors and embedded AI domains, as well as contributing to open-source software communities in industrial and academic contexts Your Profile A doctoral student is a research enthusiast, …whose interests are scientific research combined with the passion for Infineon’s innovative products and applications. …who enjoys working in an industrial environment in combination with an Infineon partner university. …who appreciates open communication and the contribution of an international environment. …and is thus an excellent candidate for a further academic or industrial career after completion of their thesis.
