The Role We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our dynamic Global Laboratory Systems Engineering team. This role is central to defining and executing the next generation of manufacturing and test solutions for GM’s labs and garages worldwide. Our team supports a wide range of test capabilities and projects across global sites, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and standardized data practices. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will: Collaborate closely with GM Product Engineering, Laboratory Operations, Sustainable Workplaces, and strategic external suppliers to deliver high-impact solutions. Lead and support a diverse portfolio of projects, offering continuous opportunities to work with emerging technologies and grow both individually and as part of a high-performing team. Key Responsibilities Serve as a technical leader for lab and garage projects across the Warren campus and beyond. Partner with cross-functional teams including product engineering, advanced engineering, global groups, and key suppliers. Focus on systems related to electric propulsion, test measurement and control, PLC software, and mechanical/electrical systems supporting manufacturing and testing. Develop and implement equipment standards, oversee integration and installation, and drive issue resolution to improve uptime and ensure data integrity and product quality. Apply deep understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles to support equipment design, installation, and reconfiguration efforts. What You’ll Do (Responsibilities) Lead and support projects that specify, source, engineer, integrate, install, and commission new capital test and manufacturing equipment into General Motors laboratories Provide technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources Design, develop, and validate test and manufacturing systems to support new technologies Provide technical support for escalated issues at labs and garages Lead continuous improvement engineering activities Some domestic and international travel, about 10% Y our Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field 5+ years of experience in project engineering or related discipline 2+ years of experience with equipment integration and commissioning Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex projects with high level of autonomy and accountability for results Knowledge of equipment specification and qualification Experience purchasing capital equipment Creative in meeting project quality, timing, and cost landmarks Ability to travel, domestic and international What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) 5+ years of experience in equipment integration and commissioning MS Engineering preferred Experience with GM-specific processes, including G-risk, G-comply, Design for Health & Safety, Safety Observation Tours, Safety Contract Management and Management of Change Outstanding interpersonal and relationship leadership skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with varying levels of the organization Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment Proven project management experience with responsibility for timing and budget deliverables #LI-JK3
