Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid role (3-days/week in the office) based in Warren, MI, with occasional travel to PPO, GAW, Milford, and assembly plants as needed to support vehicle builds and program milestones.
The Role:
The Mass Integration Engineer plays a foundational role in the Vehicle Mass Integration team, responsible for the understanding, modeling, and validation of vehicle-level mass targets. This includes managing key mass properties such as Certification Mass, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR), and Center of Gravity (CG). The role supports cross-functional engineering teams and contributes to the success of corporate fuel economy and greenhouse gas strategies.
Vehicle Mass Responsibilities:
- Serve as the vehicle-level imperative owner for all mass properties on assigned programs, ensuring targets are met on time and with quality.
- Analyze Vehicle and SMT (System Management Team) level mass status for current, new and major programs.
- Develops and maintains model and option masses to predict all vehicle configurations for vehicle regulatory labels.
- Validate vehicle mass predictions through pre-production and production audits.
- Develop and manage model and option masses to ensure compliance with vehicle regulatory labeling requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Provides technical support to Vehicle Program Teams, Vehicle Performance Team, System Management Team engineering organizations, Global Propulsion Systems, Emission Certification, TACER, Manufacturing Engineering, Order Fulfilment, Marketing, Quality, Validation/Durability, Communications, and production facilities.
- Actively run the Mass PIT (Program Integration Team) meetings and integration reviews to ensure mass status is understood and reduction initiatives are implemented.
- Generate and implement technical mass reduction strategies for current, new, and major programs.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the evolution of mass-related tools, systems and processes.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years of professional engineering experience.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex and unusual problems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Comfortable working with and analyzing large datasets.
- Experience with MS Excel, Vis Mockup, and engineering software.
- Desire to learn and work with complex computer systems and engineering processes.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Passion for lightweighting through competitive benchmarking and identification of new technologies.
- Experience with engineering software, MS Excel, Vis Mockup, and mainframe systems.
- Familiarity with PPC (Product Program Content) and VDS (Vehicle Description Summary).
- Visual Basic programming skills are a plus.
