About this Position:
This position will lead the Indirect Category Management Department, comprised of multiple specialized category units with the responsibility for strategy development, supplier management and optimization of indirect spend across all North American business units. The Department Lead is responsible to provide clear direction to all commodity managers on initiatives to create value for the indirect commodities, including industry trends analysis, development of long-term category strategies, identification of opportunities to maximize cost savings and manage supplier relationships of approximately $7B in goods and services. The Department Lead shall provide leadership and mentorship to all direct and indirect reports with a strong focus on long-term / succession planning. The Department Lead is also responsible to deeply understand each of the category vertical characteristics (Capital Equipment, Construction, Facility Services, Corporate Services, IT, Logistics, MRO, Marketing, Sales, and New Business), their respective strategic and core supply bases, and key category stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
Category Management Leadership: Lead the development and execution of robust category strategies aligned with the organization’s objectives and business goals. Seeking to maximize the spend under management; improve Honda’s cost position and provide value beyond savings for indirect goods and services. Ability to utilize innovative trends, changes in customer trends, and impacts of technology to inform strategies.
Department Management - Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing category management procurement team. Establish KPIs and performance metrics to track team progress and supplier performance/relationship management. Build a “One Team Honda” philosophy across the department and the entire Indirect organization to improve the flow of work. Resource succession planning including building associate talent through regular mentoring, project opportunities, performance feedback and development planning.
Supplier & Contract Management - Enhance supplier value while maintaining tight control over indirect spend. Lead the categories to establish and achieve SQCDM performance targets; monitor progress and implement countermeasures when necessary.
Stakeholder Engagement - Partner with internal business units to proactively align insight driven sourcing strategies, including multi-year strategies with business needs. Act as a trusted partner and advisor to stakeholders on market trends, cost drivers, and sourcing risks. Lead the development of the stakeholder governance forums and category councils for improved results and partnering
Accountable to place Honda and the End Users first by understanding the 3A’s, customer viewpoints (upstream, downstream and end-user) and customer relationships in all category strategies, including supplier contracts oversight.
Cost Optimization & Risk Management - Lead the implementation of sourcing strategies to optimize cost, cash, and working capital across all indirect categories (e.g., Marketing, IT, Professional Services, Facilities, MRO, Logistics, Capital Equipment, Construction). Ability to apply financial principles and data to complex business decisions. Ability to identify and execute cost reduction and cost avoidance initiatives with a focus on ROI.
Establish, develop and sustain networks consisting of internal Honda relationships, supplier relationships and external organization relationships to achieve robust and comprehensive category strategies
Who we are seeking:
Required Work Experience:
10-12 years’ experience based on education and work history (preferred experience either in a procurement role, or in a field with transferable knowledge and skills).
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, finance or related field.
