The Role
General Motors is looking for a Damper and Innovation Technical Specialist to lead global technical strategy and innovation in suspension damping systems. This role requires deep expertise in passive and adaptive damping technologies and advanced suspension systems to support vehicle integration and program execution worldwide.
What You’ll Do
- Lead global technical strategy for suspension damping systems, supporting GM’s vision for advanced vehicle dynamics and cost optimization.
- Drive the development and integration of innovative damper technologies in collaboration with design, ride & handling, software, and electrical engineering teams.
- Manage technical documentation, including standards, timing plans, and best practices, to ensure consistent and high-quality deliverables.
- Maintain and update the suspension technology roadmap and coordinate cross-functional technology application plans.
- Oversee the advanced technology project portfolio, promoting innovation and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with software and services teams to align on control strategies and integration approaches.
- Support supplier selection, sourcing strategies, and maintain the Technically Approved Supplier List to ensure a competitive and reliable supply base.
- Provide technical consultation and support to cross-functional teams, including vehicle performance, safety, quality, and program management.
- Lead benchmarking efforts, contribute to peer reviews, and support investigations to resolve design and integration issues.
What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)
- BSEE or BSME required
- Minimum 12 years of suspension engineering experience.
- Minimum of 6 years of damper system and component engineering experience.
- Strong understanding and application of DFMEAs and PFMEAs.
- Experience writing SOR and technical documents.
- High-level of oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent physics-based critical thinking skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to legally operate an automobile.
- Ability to travel as needed up to 5% of time.
