The Role: Shift Lead – Global Supply Chain As a Shift Lead within General Motors’ Global Supply Chain organization, you will play a critical role in leading a team to ensure seamless operational execution and continuous improvement across supply chain functions. You will be responsible for the development, training, and engagement of team members, driving performance through effective leadership and structured performance management processes. In this people-leader role, you will directly manage a team, ensuring alignment with GM’s strategic goals and organizational structure. Your leadership will support the delivery of key supply chain initiatives and metrics, while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and innovation. The Shift Lead will work cross-functionally with production, manufacturing, logistics, and quality teams to support operational requirements, resolve issues, and ensure supply continuity. You will also support relationship management with third-party logistics providers and key service partners to maintain high standards of service and delivery. Success in this role requires strong communication across all organizational levels, the ability to make sound decisions independently, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset. This position demands initiative, critical thinking, and a commitment to operational excellence in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. What You’ll Do (Responsibilities) As a Supply Chain Shift Lead at General Motors, you will play a critical role in driving material availability, operational efficiency, and cross-functional problem-solving to support uninterrupted vehicle production. You will lead a team, ensure compliance with internal processes, and actively contribute to strategic planning efforts. Key responsibilities include: Supply Chain Operations & Issue Resolution Identify, assess, and resolve complex supply chain issues with a focus on minimizing production disruptions and reducing premium freight. Lead cross-functional teams to develop innovative, executable solutions to material or logistics challenges. Analyze metrics to support issue resolution and sufficiency planning for suppliers and materials. Material Flow & Process Execution Oversee material flow activities, ensuring the efficient and accurate movement of materials from receipt through shipment. Implement, monitor, and maintain Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles and initiatives across operations. Ensure compliance with internal control procedures and hazardous material training requirements for material handling personnel. Maintain high standards of workplace organization through 5S and standardized work practices. Team Leadership & Labor Relations Supervise floor operations and directly lead material team personnel to support production needs. Develop team members through coaching, training, and ongoing performance management. Foster and maintain positive labor relationships, handling grievances, attendance, vacation, and overtime tracking. Conduct audits of safety documentation, ergonomic assessments, training records, and departmental records. Business Process Deployment (BPD) & Strategic Planning Coordinate the development and communication of Business Process Deployment (BPD) requirements for floor operations. Ensure timely documentation, reporting, and follow-up on BPD-related initiatives. Participate in departmental and functional gap closure planning processes. Collaborate with Business Planners and provide strategic input into future-year BPD and operational improvement plans. Budgeting & Resource Planning Contribute to annual budget development and resource planning based on operational forecasts and strategic goals. Review and approve manpower plans (GMOS) to ensure optimal staffing and support production efficiency. Monitor scorecard metrics and performance indicators to support continuous improvement and long-term planning. Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications): 5-7 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment High functional capability with supply chain floor systems – MGO, EPS, PPS, VBIMS, GEPICS, WMS, etc. Strong understanding of supply chain and lean material processes; Logistics (LLP processes), Receiving, Internal Material Flow, Scrap, Obsolescence, etc. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, effective project planning in terms of resources, strategies, cost, and time, with ability to meet project timelines Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals Previous Supply Chain experience Previous experience supervising/leading salaried employees Experience working in a manufacturing environment Ability to be flexible and at times work extended and non-core hours to ensure issues are worked to resolution Ability to travel to plant locations when required for onsite support of launch and build-out (minimal) What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications): Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or another Business-related field Prior experience with varied Supply Chain office and floor assignments Multi plant and/or multi-functional experience Experience/knowledge of GM Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) Knowledge of Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) Experience with GMS SLT implementation and execution Experience working in materials This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
