Chief Mechanic - FREC
Van Amersfoort Racing is seeking a skilled and dedicated Chief Mechanic to lead our technical team for the FREC team!
About the Role
As the Chief Mechanic for our FREC team at Van Amersfoort Racing, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the maintenance, preparation, and performance optimization of our FREC race cars. You’ll be the driving force behind our mechanic team, ensuring cars are race-ready and performing at peak levels. The workshop is based in Zeewolde, but this role includes travel to various race events.
Responsibilities
Lead and supervise the team of mechanics in the workshop and at the track
Organize and assign tasks within the mechanic team to ensure efficient operations
Ensure correct build, preparation, and maintenance of the cars
Oversee all routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs, ensuring cars meet technical standards and regulatory compliance
Conduct pre- and post-race technical inspections and quality checks on the cars, ensuring readiness and compliance
Coordinate rapid, effective solutions for technical issues during races and test sessions to keep cars running optimally
Lead the mechanics crew while the team is operating in the pit lane during events
Will also act as the #2 Mechanic assigned to one of the cars during sessions, in compliance with regulatory restrictions
Work closely with the engineering team to translate driver feedback into technical adjustments and setup changes
Manage inventory of spare parts and technical supplies, maintaining an organized warehouse and tracking stock levels
Train and mentor the mechanic team, ensuring the team stays current with the latest technologies and procedures
Maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and organization in the workshop and paddock
Manage staffing needs in coordination with Team Manager including travel planning and workshop coverage
About You
Proven experience as a Chief Mechanic or No.1 Race Mechanic in a Formula racing environment, ideally within FREC or similar categories
Extensive mechanical knowledge and technical expertise in single-seaters, with experience in team leadership
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a proactive, hands-on mindset
Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in Dutch is a bonus but not essential
Flexibility to live in or relocate to the Netherlands, with full-time availability including weekends and international travel
