This position requires a customs professional who is detail-oriented with strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally
with organizations outside Tax & Customs.
Key responsibilities include:
Origin Determination:
○ Determination of non-preferential country of origin for customs purposes
○ Ensure on time and compliant origin determination for AALA
○ Determine country of origin for CAFE purposes
○ Identification of country of origin for US vehicle content provisions
Preferential Treatment Qualification:
○ Qualification of vehicles for non-US free trade agreements
○ Calculate preferential status of products under the applicable rule of origin
○ Review calculation results to identify opportunities to potentially qualify a product for preferential treatment
○ Work closely with Customs Origin Data Management Center of Excellence to escalate responses pending from critical suppliers
○ Maintain Internal Controls and work instructions required for compliance
Data Analytics associated with Free Trade Agreement requirements:
○ Support ongoing enhancements to bills of materials used for customs purposes
○ Identify opportunities for duty savings
○ Optimize processes
○ Identify data anomalies or issues with data outputs
○ Manage large datasets
Required:
○ Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, or other business-related subject.
○ Minimum of 5-year experience in Customs, Tax Compliance, Logistics or related field
○ Identifies and devises solutions based on limited information and
precedent. Uses evaluation and judgement to solve problems that are
new to the organization and require a deep level of experience and
strategic thought to create a solution.
○ Effective collaboration with business unit management and other functional related teams necessary for facilitating the global
compliance program.
○ Ability to quickly grasp and understand customs related concepts, standards, locally relevant business provisions, etc. to add value and provide insightful recommendations that are pragmatic, address root cause and process opportunities/weaknesses, and lead to increased efficiencies/improved controls.
○ Strong oral and written communication skills.
○ Strong interpersonal, team, and partnering skills.
○ Capability to navigate customs duty regulations in an ambiguous and ever-changing environment.
○ Process improvement minded with technical ability in, or desire to learn, software such as KNIME, PowerBI, Excel, SAP, and other process simplification tools.
Preferred:
○ Customs or International Trade related experience
○ US Customs Broker License

Location: Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Detroit Renaissance Ctr - Global HQ Detroit, MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
