Work Arrangement
Onsite – This role requires the employee to be onsite on a regular basis. The primary work location will be Lansing Delta Township with domestical travel required as needed up to 50%.
The Role
The Senior Manufacturing Execution Engineer – General Assembly Automation will lead optimization and automation initiatives across General Assembly (GA) operations at multiple vehicle assembly sites. This role is pivotal in designing, building, and commissioning state-of-the-art automation projects that drive efficiency, reduce Manufacturing Cost Per Unit (MCPU), and support GM’s vision of the factory of the future. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance to deliver lean, scalable solutions. This position requires a high level of independent judgment and technical leadership across centralized engineering and plant environments.
What You’ll Do
- Define product and manufacturing requirements including tooling, automation, workstation setup, and facility layout.
- Analyze and optimize material flow for future movement strategies.
- Develop interfaces and common tooling/process standards across departments.
- Provide technical direction and oversight to vendors and plant/product teams.
- Lead design, integration, installation, launch, and continuous improvement of automation equipment.
- Coordinate automation projects and integration activities with plant CI leads and ME/IE teams.
- Conduct project plan reviews with production management and ensure contractual compliance.
- Support manufacturing and maintenance teams with technical guidance and issue resolution.
- Manage project timing, resources, budgets, and reporting (scorecards, one-pagers, meeting minutes).
- Drive performance integration and engineering deliverables for program execution and quality readiness.
- Lead vehicle launch activities and serve as engineering interface to plant operations.
