The Role:
The Maintenance Lead is responsible for overseeing a team of salaried maintenance Group Leaders and overseeing the maintenance and repair of plant equipment and facilities. This role ensures alignment with GM’s Global Manufacturing System (GMS) and focuses on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). The Maintenance Lead plays a key role in driving operational excellence, team development, and cross-functional collaboration.
As a Maintenance Lead, you will manage day-to-day maintenance operations, provide technical guidance, and ensure compliance with safety and labor standards. This role will require overtime commitments and work on multiple shifts. You’ll be responsible for developing your team, implementing preventative maintenance strategies, and supporting plant-wide initiatives. This role requires strong leadership, technical acumen, and the ability to influence across departments.
What You'll Do:
- Oversee a small to medium group of salaried maintenance Group Leaders on 1st, 2nd or 3rd shifts.
- Lead maintenance and repair of plant equipment and facilities in alignment with GM standards.
- Develop off-shift and weekend work plans for maintenance
- Conduct checks and tests, evaluate results, and recommend solutions to equipment issues.
- Ensure compliance with local and national labor agreements.
- Implement divisional and corporate policies, safety standards, and housekeeping practices.
- Collaborate frequently with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Optimize use of personnel, materials, and equipment.
- Participate in hiring, training, development, and evaluation of employees.
- Establish action plans to complete jobs and projects effectively.
- Provide technical guidance for complex plant operations or projects.
- Assist in developing budgets and forecasts within the assigned area.
- Apply and promote GMS principles throughout maintenance operations.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- In-depth knowledge and experience in maintenance operations and systems.
- Proven leadership in supervising teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of preventative maintenance and equipment diagnostics.
- Ability to analyze data, resolve issues, and develop operational plans.
- Effective communicator with strong collaboration and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with labor agreements and corporate compliance standards.
