This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum
The Role
The Outbound Logistics Planning Coordinator position has responsibility for coordinating Global Outbound Logistics operations for GM Defense. This position requires close collaboration with GM Defense Customer to ensure on time delivery to both domestic and international locations. Key activities involve forecasting and planning capacity utilization for responsible nodes (plants, ports and vehicle distribution centers) and managing supplier performance to meet budget. Work involves a high-level of independent judgment, decision making, attention to detail and initiative.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate with GM Defense Customer and assembly location for Vehicle and Propulsion deliveries
- Ensure Customer Requirements for delivery are understood and executed
- Ensure all shipping security guidelines are executed to support program requirements (Export Compliance, Military Guidelines…)
- Collaborate with the Logistics Advance Planner to develop statement of requirements at time of sourcing for each activity occurring at responsible nodes in Outbound Vehicle Operations (ex. Yard Management, Port Processing, Rail loading, Vessel loading, Haulaway, Rail Operations, VDC Operation, Dealer Pickup, Driveaway, etc)
- Meet with suppliers as needed (daily, weekly, monthly) to develop robust plans
- Adjust plan as needed for capacity issues (launch, weather, holds, quarter end activities)
- Collaborate with Purchasing to secure capacity as needed
- Support Spot Buy moves
- Review and action supplier performance trends as needed (lift, loading, processing, dwell, aging, etc)
- Coordinate field action plans as needed
- Identify and support both cost and transit reduction initiatives
- Support sharing of best practices across all regions in North America
- Build and maintain relationships and communication with stakeholders at multiple levels, both internal and external to the company (Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Carrier Leadership and Operations, etc).
- Participate in and facilitate carrier reviews, safety audits, and quality meetings
- Support sharing of best practices across all regions in North America
- Support development of GMD Outbound shipping guidelines for Domestic and Global Shipments
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree
- 5+ years of work experience in Outbound Vehicle Shipping domestically and internationally
- Ability to lead problem solving activities
- Ability to communicate and work effectively within teams
- Ability to work in fast paced environment and meet deadlines
- Understanding of the sense of urgency required in solving network issues
- Self-motivated / Strong initiative
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Highly proficient analytical, organizational and project management skills
- Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee)
