The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Engineer with a strong passion for metal heat treating processes and a drive for continuous improvement in quality. This role requires cross-functional collaboration and will involve working closely with internal GM teams and external suppliers worldwide.
The Global Process Lead will serve as a subject matter expert, providing hands-on training, mentorship, and guidance on best practices related to heat treat processes. This individual will play a critical role in driving process improvements and ensuring supplier performance aligns with GM's quality and manufacturing standards.
Success in this role requires a proactive mindset, the ability to respond effectively to urgent issues, and a long-term focus on developing solutions that support the evolving needs of both Supplier Quality and General Motors.
What You'll Do
- Provide technical support & training to GM Supplier Quality Engineers in the areas of Metal Heat Treating processes and quality systems.
- Assure supplier understanding and compliance with all General Motors and Industry Standards and best practices for Metal Heat Treating processes.
- Develop, update and calibrate execution of Heat Treat manufacturing requirements globally for supplier manufacturing process controls.
- Approve new Heat Treat suppliers and help to develop suppliers. Ensure that suppliers are capable to produce parts to GM specification. Recertify suppliers when applicable.
- Review and approve supplier manufacturing, tooling and quality plans for new Metal Heat Treating processes and operations.
- Assist in determining root cause of supplier manufacturing issues and implementing timely, effective, and efficient quality resolutions.
- Improve Heat Treat quality performance of suppliers by conducting onsite audits, workshops and training at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing robust Heat Treat and quality systems, and other technical support as required.
- Provide technical assistance during supplier launch, change-over and ongoing production activities.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Global Heat Treat, Material Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and Purchasing functions to refine and improve Supplier Heat Treat systems to exceed customer quality requirements.
