The Battery Assistant Chief Engineer (ACE) is the owner for their assigned battery programs. In general, the ACE is responsible for defining, communicating, approving, and tracking adherence to battery and battery system level functional objectives, requirements, and technical deliverables to meet required program timing. This role is also the battery team’s primary technical Interface to Vehicle & Powertrain Integration, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Electrical Eng Core, Electrification Powertrain team, Controls, Calibration, Quality, and EE Systems. The ACE addresses and presents battery technical items for reviews in high level meetings as needed, owns the approval of the battery/battery system technical requirements document, system testing and validation testing while leading a cross functional team and battery technical experts.
A successful candidate will contribute to Open Points List meetings, Product Development Team technical reviews, evaluations, technical specification sign-offs and issue resolution. The ACE will instill accountability to priority actions and rapid turn of results for issues identified, is accountable for executing technical plans for simulation and testing for each phase of the program while supporting adherence to timing and cost objectives and includes post-test inspection reviews and any detailed failure analysis. The candidate will coordinate the assembly of evidence for validation sign off that all technical requirements have been met or have approved deviations.
The Battery Assistant Chief Engineer (ACE) is the technical owner for their assigned battery programs. The ideal candidate will co-lead with the battery HW/SW Design Responsible Engineers to: fulfill prototype build plans, address bench and HIL testing plans, and manage/communicate issue resolution plans. The candidate will schedule & attend design reviews, insure ordering of proto parts occurs on time, author minutes with action items/follow up for each design review and follow up on action item closure, will include manufacturing entities to ensure designs are robust to customer requirements, meets functional requirements, and can be manufactured/assembled without defect. The candidate will demonstrate leadership in continuous improvement initiatives, technical cost reductions, bulletins and supporting vehicle assembly plant launches, will lead coordination with Vehicle/Powertrain Team on vehicle program Packaging studies, be responsible for organizing and conducting supplier selection technical reviews and will review, approve & track the System Design Validation Plan & Report (DVP&R) and supports the development of the component DVP&Rs. The candidate will execute standardization plans and reuse of validated subcomponents and reviews, edits as needed and approves Vehicle Owner’s Manual Documentation. Execute these tasks with strong leadership abilities and outstanding teamwork/communication skills.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related degree field
- Minimum of 8 years of technical engineering work experience
- Minimum of 2 years in an ACE, DSE role/lead engineer or similar experience
- Knowledge of DFMEA and DVP&R development and execution
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated, self-starter, and strong independent leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills: both verbal and written
- Excellent presentation skills: development, and delivery
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Prior experience in hybrids, HV batteries or the electrification of propulsion systems
- Experience/knowledge in controls, calibration, and simulation work
