Tasks
Laser welding is an important process that significantly influences the efficiency and performance of electric drives. This master's thesis investigates laser welding of dissimilar joints and the influence of various process parameters on the welding result in order to derive an optimal process strategy.
This master's thesis investigates the optimization potential of the joining process for such dissimilar joints with regard to the required quality aspects based on previous work. The focus is on the factors influencing quality. This master's thesis supports the implementation, application, and training of sensor technology and deep learning algorithms. Furthermore, the factors influencing the system will be investigated. Using CT analyses and high-speed camera recordings, correlations between sensor data and weld seam quality will be established.
The thesis therefore includes the following tasks:
Preparation, execution, and evaluation of tests (e.g., high-speed videos and destructive and non-destructive testing)
Investigation and evaluation of factors influencing the quality of the joint
Development and implementation of evaluation methods for weld seam quality
Requirements
Studies in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a comparable field
Ideally, areas of study focus: production; laser material processing; materials science
Excellent knowledge of laser welding and materials science is an advantage
Confident use of MS Office and knowledge of Matlab
