Summary of Position
The Quality Engineer Co-Op provides hands-on experience in quality assurance, control, and continuous improvement within Singer. The Co-Op will support quality initiatives across all stages of the vehicle build, helping to identify, contain, and resolve quality issues while learning critical problem-solving methodologies and industry best practices. The role emphasizes proactive prevention of defects, reduction of process variation and waste. This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated student to contribute meaningfully to a high-caliber production operation while developing real-world skills in root cause analysis, quality systems, and cross-functional collaboration.
The Co-op program runs from June 2- August 15 in Torrance, CA and is full-time during that period. Must be currently enrolled in a college program in a relevant field to be considered.
Essential Duties
Support quality assurance activities by assisting in inspections, quality checks, and audits across various production stages.
Participate in root cause investigations and containment actions for non-conforming products using tools such as 8D, Fishbone, and 5-Why analysis.
Help develop and maintain documentation, including inspection standards, quality plans, work instructions, and visual guides.
Assist in monitoring and analyzing quality metrics such as First Pass Yield, Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), and Defect Per Unit (DPU) to identify trends and improvement areas.
Collaborate with production, supply chain, and engineering teams to support the resolution of internal and external quality concerns.
Engage in supplier quality support, assisting in the evaluation and follow-up of supplier non-conformances and improvement plans.
Shadow and participate in internal and layered process audits to gain a deeper understanding of compliance and system effectiveness.
Support the coordination of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and track their implementation and long-term effectiveness.
Learn and contribute to the MRB (Material Review Board) process, supporting documentation and decision-making on non-conforming materials.
Assist with the implementation of change control management to ensure traceability and consistency in product and process modifications.
Participate in FMEA discussions and design reviews, gaining exposure to failure prevention strategies and design-for-quality principles.
Present findings and suggestions at the conclusion of the Co-Op in the form of a final report or presentation highlighting improvement ideas and lessons learned.
Compensation The starting pay for this position is $22/hr. Actual compensation will be determined by skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
