Purpose of the Role:
Responsible for the day to day running of a small team of specialised assembly technicians assembling complex high value electronic products in small/medium volumes. The products are mainly used in motorsport and high-end automotive applications where the highest quality and reliability standards are paramount.
Role Dimensions:
Team management responsibility for 3 direct reports.
The role will require overtime during peak periods or as projects demand.
Principal Accountabilities:
· Manages team to achieve objectives, and may act as technical lead on specific projects/work.
· Run and programme pick and place machines, current line is x3 ASM SX line (Used to be Siemens)
· Run additional equipment (3D AOI, Selective Soldering, X-Ray & Conformal-Coating machines within the department) with your team.
· Maintain machine maintenance contracts with suppliers and organise preventative maintenance schedules internally.
· Allocates resources, forecasts resource and capability requirements for projects, liaising with key stakeholders.
· Inputs to planning and resource forecasting. Sets and organises the priorities and direction for the team. Distributes work in line with project/business requirements.
· Plans, schedules and inputs with the planning team to deliver multiple current products/projects in line with business priorities.
· Providing & coordinating DFM (Design for Manufacture), DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFT (Design for Test) inputs with the NPI team (New Product Introduction).
· Contribute to process FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis).
· Provides clear technical input.
· Provides guidance on different approaches to development and delivery of solutions/systems that could yield better results.
· Actively mentors staff to increase quality.
· Leads and delivers in production and inspection activities following instructions and processes to ensure products are delivered effectively, efficiently, on-time, to specification and in a cost effective manner.
· Follows and communicates understanding of production procedures, processes and technical documentation.
· Works autonomously within established procedures and practices.
· Maintains manufacturing documentation to achieve full standards of traceability within department.
· Fully contributes to the process of continuous improvements and company goal of achieving zero defects in accordance with ISO9001 certified quality management systems requirements.
· People management responsibility, including setting clear goals, objectives and expected behaviours, agreeing development plans and regularly reviewing performance.
· Develops team both technically and in relation to their performance in the team, regularly reviews progress and undertakes performance reviews.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
· Proven track record working in the low volume manufacturing environment ideally with SMT assembly with pick and place machines.
· Comprehensive understanding of relevant IPC standards to Class 3.
· Comprehensive understanding of industry standards and regulations in order to ensure guidelines are followed and machinery and equipment are operated safely.
· Has developed proficiency in a range of processes or procedures through job-related training and considerable on-the-job expertise.
· Leads the team in the delivery of tasks and is an effective team member. Mentors team members.
· Good PC skills.
· Good time management.
· Very good attention to detail to maintain or exceed high levels of production standards and efficiency.
· Ability to fully contribute to the process of continuous improvements.
· Good understanding of working in similar high technology environment.
· Understands skills and experience of team members and key processes in relevant business area.
· Ability to manage workload across a diverse team.
· Understands key processes within function and people management practices such as performance and absence management, recruitment and learning analysis and health and safety management.
· Prioritises, plans and coordinates activities across skills sets to maximise resource utilisation.
