About the Role:
We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for an experienced Senior Control Systems Simulation Engineer to join the Performance Department at Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix. As part of our dynamic Controls group, you will leverage advanced simulations to identify and drive improvements in the control systems that directly enhance car performance.
Key Accountabilities (Duties):
Leading technical projects to meet external requirements and deadlines with agility and precision.
Defining project timelines and milestones while fostering collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring accountability throughout the process.
Identifying opportunities for performance improvement and coordinating development efforts to enhance existing control systems.
Providing technical direction and developing sophisticated control algorithms to address complex engineering challenges.
Creating and maintaining simulation models to evaluate control system performance.
Ensuring simulation results are validated through consistent quality checks and correlation with track and rig data.
Utilizing optimization techniques to support calibration and system enhancement.
Introducing new technologies and innovative solutions to continuously improve the team's control system simulation capabilities.
Candidate Profile:
Essential:
A Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on mathematical and physical systems.
Advanced proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow, with expertise in model-based design.
A solid foundation in engineering numerical methods, classical mechanics, and multi-body dynamics.
Strong knowledge of state-space methods, modern control/estimation theory, and numerical techniques.
A methodical, data-driven approach to solving complex problems using various tools and data sources.
This role is ideal for candidates with significant experience in high-performance industries who are eager to progress towards a leadership role.
Desirable:
Experience with real-time control system platforms (e.g., dSPACE, Beckhoff, Speedgoat).
Familiarity with multi-body engineering tools such as Modelica and SimScape.
Expertise in transmissions, vehicle dynamics, and power units.
Experience in non-linear programming techniques and optimal control strategies.
