Within the Control Systems Group we have a new vacancy as Senior Control Systems Application Engineer.
Senior Control Systems Application Engineer - The Role
A challenging and exciting role in which the successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, monitoring, optimising, testing and ensuring the safe operation of the chassis control systems. This varied role will contribute to the development of our on-car and off-car systems and support the operation of those systems at the track and on factory-based dynos, rigs and simulators located at Viry and Enstone. Key responsibilities are:
To ensure the safe, reliable and performant operation of the on-car chassis control systems on track from the Operations Room and track-side.
To contribute to the development of control and monitoring systems on off-car test rigs and dynos located at Viry and Enstone.
To mentor junior engineers track-side at Race Support Team events and in the Operations Room.
To support control systems in the Driver-in-the-Loop simulator for correlation work and driver training.
To maintain very close familiarity with on-car standard ECU software and hardware and team software.
To liaise with colleagues across the engineering functions on relevant topics, providing analytical and objective feedback on developments and faults.
Senior Control Systems Application Engineer – The Person
The successful candidate will be a University Graduate in Engineering or Physics, with an excellent grasp of real time control systems, mechatronics and hydraulic systems and a flair for data analysis.
A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in a high-level trackside environment is required for this role.
Professional experience of programming in MATLAB and Simulink is mandatory.
Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Candidates must demonstrate an in-depth understanding of on-car hydraulic and electrical systems and current F1 transmission technology, an appreciation of failure modes and skill in fault diagnosis.
Practical understanding of sampled data systems, signal processing and data analysis techniques.
Experience in the use of dSPACE systems will provide an advantage.
Knowledge of vehicle dynamics fundamentals will provide an advantage.
Experience in the use of McLaren Applied off-car tools will provide an advantage.
Experience in the use of Python and C# will provide an advantage.
