Alpine Formula One Team is seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Experimental Aerodynamicist to join our Experimental Aerodynamics Team. Based at our state-of-the-art wind tunnel facility in the Oxfordshire countryside, this is a rare opportunity to be part of our growing team at the forefront of experimental aerodynamics in Formula One.
If you are hands-on, detail-oriented, passionate about experimental aerodynamics, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, this could be your next step in motorsport.
The Role
As Lead Experimental Aerodynamicist, you will play a central role in the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of our wind tunnel testing programme. You’ll take ownership of test sessions, ensure the highest quality of data is gathered, and support the Head of Experimental Testing in leading the group.
You’ll work closely with aerodynamicists, model designers, and wind tunnel engineers to deliver high-impact results that directly influence car performance. You’ll also help shape the future of our testing methodologies, tools, and workflows—driving innovation and excellence across the department.
This is a leadership-focused, hands-on role that combines technical expertise with mentoring and collaboration.
The Person
To succeed in this role, you’ll need a solid foundation in aeronautical engineering, a strong understanding of fluid mechanics, and substantial experience—as well as passion—for Formula One race car experimental aerodynamics. You’ll be confident working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, capable of solving problems under pressure, applying your experience, and taking ownership of challenging tasks. You’ll also be a natural collaborator—someone who communicates clearly, works well in a team, and is always looking for ways to improve processes and performance.

- Over five years of experience in Formula One experimental aerodynamics
- A strong understanding of wind tunnel testing techniques and limitations
- A proven ability to lead test sessions and manage a test schedule
- Demonstrated experience in leading a team and mentoring junior engineers
- A creative approach to problem-solving and a mindset geared towards continuous improvement
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- A Master’s degree (or higher) in Aeronautical Engineering or a related discipline
