We are looking for an Engineer to join our track systems team involve in the installation, commissioning and operation of Track Systems fibre infrastructure.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As the fibre optic service provider, you will assist in the commissioning, configuration and monitoring of the optical system for the broadcast, IT, and communications network.
Ability to act as an Event lead, ensuring that technical deliverables are met to the highest standards whilst ensuring a proactive and collaborative team environment.
Operate as a subject matter expert for the Ciena 6500 OTN (Optical Transport Network).
Support and liaise with other departments/customers, to fault-find problems or provide solutions to requests as they arise.
Working with Senior Engineers to take ownership of business areas and operational relationships to act as a point of contact for technical advice, fault reporting and repair feedback.
Optically testing, inspecting and commissioning the fibre optic infrastructure at F1 events using optical test equipment and end-face cleaning procedures
Work within project design, providing implementation and documentation to the highest standards providing reliable and resilient technical solutions
Represent the team and its systems in technical meetings.
Mentoring and developing of technicians within the team
First hand support for track side systems including: Track cameras, FIA marshalling, Telemetry, data acquisition and timing as well as paddock systems and F1 team integration.
Collaboration with stakeholders and team members to optimise technical solutions whilst utilising existing available resources.
Undertaking race event preparatory work and be able to liaise with F1 departments to ensure race planning is completed in adequate time.
Able to provide support to test, service and terminate singlemode fibre using a variety of connectors.
Confident in general wiring practices and termination of data/power cables when required.
Take ownership of systems to ensure that the design and workflows are continually adapted to meet ever changing business needs and make the most of technical advances.
Keep an interest in new technologies and developments in relation to Track Systems, including contributing in system design and project team involvement.
Required to ensure the upkeep of equipment list/manifests and liaise with freight department, order new consumables and technical products when requested.
About You
A degree in broadcasting/telecommunication engineering discipline or relevant experience with actual experience in technical broadcasting/communication systems.
HNC/HND in broadcasting/telecommunications/general engineering
Knowledge of fibre optical technologies including the testing, servicing and termination of optical fibre using a variety of connectors. This includes OTDR testing, fusion splicing, fibre termination and installation of fibre optic cable.
Proven history of system design and implementation.
Previous project experience
Experienced in TCP/IP Ethernet networks and configuring switches on a LAN network.
Ability to perform in depth root cause analysis of system workflow and equipment faults and go back to first principles when necessary if faced with an unknown situation.
Experience with configuration and use of OTN system
Proven experience and understanding of technical wiring diagrams
Capable of performing the rig and de-rig duties as required for a team member.
A systematic approach to fault finding
Ability to think on your feet, an efficient problem-solver.
Excellent communication skills both written and spoken
MS Windows literate particularly in Word, and Excel.
Maintain a clean and presentable work environment
Ability to work unaided to perform daily tasks, testing, and small projects on technical systems using approved guidelines. Honesty, initiative, diligence and attention to detail is expected at all times.
Good communication skills; Able to explain information to technical and non-technical audiences.
