About the Department:
The Aerodynamic Test Facilities department are responsible for the operation and development of the state-of-the-art Wind Tunnel Facilities within Williams. Our team of multidiscipline engineers actively seek new technology and solutions to continuously improve our testing methodologies to ensure the highest quality experiments and enhance our on-track performance.
Role Overview:
This factory-based role will support our Aero Test Facilities department with both the development of control systems and electronic systems used with the Wind Tunnel as well as carrying out Wind Tunnel Tests in an effective and efficient manner, ensuring the tests are carried out to the highest standard. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the aerodynamic research and development projects in our state-of-the-art facilities and play a part in the continuous improvement of our facility, systems and physical testing to ensure the highest quality experiments and enhance our on-track performance. This role offers exposure to a broad range of engineering disciplines and applications within the department that are required to be at the front of the technology race and have the best facility on the grid.
Your Responsibilities:
As an Aerodynamic Test Facilities Industrial Placement at Williams, you will:
• Conduct tests on bespoke test rigs and model instrumentation
• Assist with the development of Wind Tunnel Control systems and electronics
• Generate and communicate ideas for improvements to the facility & systems
• Take part in facility maintenance activities
• Run the Wind Tunnel following tests and maintain all associated records
• Review data for quality and present to the Aerodynamicists
• Conduct calibrations of load cells and test equipment
Preferred Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following:
• Relevant courses such as Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical and Mechatronics.
• Solid understanding of data analysis tools
• Motorsport experience through internships or personal projects
• Electronics, controls and electromechanical systems experience
• Proactive problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication abilities
• Interest in conducting physical testing
• Knowledge of electronics, controls and electromechanical systems
• Willing to work on theoretical and practical engineering projects
• Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
