Role Purpose
This role will focus on the design of components for use on our 60% wind tunnel model.
Role Overview:
Using our 3D CAD system, the Aerodynamics Design Engineer will take wetted surfaces from Aerodynamicists and turn these into physical parts to fit our Wind Tunnel model using a variety of manufacturing processes. You will be part of a team responsible for projects from conception to test, working with cross-functional departments to ensure the success of the wind tunnel tests.
This role will focus on the design of the components to be used on the Wind Tunnel model, and will take initiative to respond quickly and effectively to tasks or issues to drive performance on the car.
Day to day responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Using a high-end CAD package, the Aerodynamics Design Engineer will be designing parts to test in our 60% wind tunnel model, delivering results and tasks within tight timelines and to a high standard.
- Ensuring that standard design practices are adhered to for all project released within the Aerodynamics department.
- Working with other members of the department to plan and release parts for manufacture using a wide range of manufacturing techniques.
- Proactively drive collaboration with other departments to build positive relationships that support a culture of high performance and innovative practices.
- Being proactive in providing support to others to ensuring efficient testing of parts in the wind tunnel.
- Collate and report back on project updates and key performance metrics within the Model Design team.
- Help drive the capability of the group by proactively looking at how we enhance performance as a team; improving design practices, reviewing improvements, and measuring progress.
- Look for innovative ideas to support wind tunnel model R&D.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Degree in an engineering discipline (or equivalent)
- Be able to demonstrate a passion for design, and how you are actively developing your skills in Model Design.
- Proficient in the use of a 3D CAD package (Experience using Siemens NX would be beneficial)
- Be able to work under minimal supervision and proactively seek support from Senior team members or mentors as required.
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of design for manufacture, and the requirement to balance functionality against cost.
- Good attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Have a proactive attitude and take accountability in constantly seeking opportunities for improvement.
