We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineer to join our F1 structures group, supporting the Head of Department with structural analysis and development of our F1 car.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that structures meet strength and stiffness targets, whilst balancing performance with safety and reliability. This challenging and rewarding role will suit a hard-working, adaptable and innovative engineer who maintains a keen eye for details whilst working to tight deadlines.
As a Structural Engineer you will:
- Perform structural analysis of metallic and composite components using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and hand calculation methods.
- Optimise existing designs to achieve mass reduction and performance gains.
- Contribute to design reviews, assessing structural viability of proposed new designs.
- Specify and observe structural proof tests, carried out within our Prototype and Test department, analysing the results and using them to improve FEA model correlation.
- Write reports summarising the analyses used to demonstrate structures are fit for purpose.
- Assist with the development of new analysis tools and improve the efficiency of existing calculation methods.
What we are looking for from our future Structural Engineer:
The successful candidate will have strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks and deliver results to agreed deadlines. They should also lead by example and be a team player with an open minded, responsible and constructive attitude.
Our ideal candidate is someone who has:
- Abaqus and ANSA or Hyperworks experience.
- Structural optimisation experience using Genesis or similar software.
- Familiarity with calculation methods based upon first principles.
- Knowledge of fatigue analysis methods.
- A thorough understanding of the structural behaviour of engineering materials.
- Scripting and model automation skills would be beneficial.
This role is pivotal to the success of our engineering process and will give the successful candidate exposure to the F1 development programme.
