Summary of Position
The Design & Specification Co-Op offers a unique opportunity for a student to gain hands-on experience in the client-facing design process. This role supports administrative and process-driven responsibilities related to specification management, documentation, and cross-functional coordination. The Co-Op will work closely with the Design and Specification team to streamline workflows, improve note-taking and validation processes, and contribute to client engagement efforts. By the end of the term, the student will present a data-supported proposal to improve visibility and morale surrounding the spec process internally at Singer, contributing to long-term cultural and operational success.
The Co-op program runs from June 2- August 15 in Torrance, CA and is full-time during that period. Must be currently enrolled in a college program in a relevant field to be considered.
Essential Duties
Support administrative tasks associated with the design and specification process, including note-taking, sample management, and data entry.
Assist with specification validation efforts, ensuring alignment between design intent, documentation, and operational execution.
Collaborate with cross-functional team members, including Design & Specification and Operations, to understand the full scope of the spec journey.
Shadow client-facing design sessions, observe communication flow, and contribute to documentation improvements that enhance clarity and accuracy.
Participate in weekly team check-ins to report progress on tasks, review pre-defined metrics, and gather feedback on performance.
Restructure and improve session documentation workflows, proposing and piloting new methods for capturing and sharing client design intent.
Assist in the coordination and shipping of physical design samples, ensuring timely delivery and quality tracking.
Lead an end-of-term project that communicates the cultural and operational value of the Design and Specification process at Singer, supported by metrics, insights, and areas for opportunity.

Compensation The starting pay for this position is $22/hr. Actual compensation will be determined by skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
