Purpose of the Role:
Aero Performance is a multi-function team at the core of our performance-led organisation. Our mission is to transparently and confidently provide the most accurate and clear information in a timely manner to lead decision-making for development, performance and operational teams to maximise championship points from each event and future projects, integrating data analysis, collecting, mining and visualisation with aerodynamic interpretation and all aspects of driver and vehicle performance.
As an Aerodynamic Performance Engineer, you are expected to use your skillset, your creativity and your work-ethic to work towards this mission. You are expected to leverage on a wide range of skills spanning from aerodynamic and car performance comprehension, data analysis, tools and simulations development, test preparation and quick decision-making under high pressure. You will work with a Team of peers with a diversified personal and technical background to maximise our Team output.
Racing forges close teams. As such, we invest in our people, providing mentoring and professional development opportunities, particularly for those near the start of their careers. These include the occasional opportunity to exploit your competence in our state-of-the-art simulator or with our top-notch trackside Team. Occasional flexibility to work out of office hours and weekends will be required. The role will be primarily based at the prestigious McLaren Technology Centre. A proportion of the time can be spent working from home.

Principal Accountabilities:
To provide innovative solutions (an analysis, a simulation, an idea, a model, a tool, ….) to performance problems in the department
To analyse aerodynamic track data in the context of vehicle performance and flow physics
To connect profoundly with Aerodynamic development, to enhance the Team performance
To support Race Engineers and Vehicle Performance during the event
To execute and promote fundamental studies which affect car performance
To maintain consistent standards and approaches adopted by the Team
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
MSc/MEng in Aerodynamics, Engineering or equivalent discipline (2:1 or above).
Strong knowledge of low-speed aerodynamic theory
Experience with a range of languages (Ideally Matlab/Python/Javascript)
Preferably experience with experimental aerodynamics
Ability in the interpretation of complex data sets to understand underlying behaviour
Ability to plan and organise projects to pre-agreed targets
Basic knowledge of vehicle performance
Effective communication, both written and verbal

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking.
