Description
As a Composite Technician with our IndyCar team, you will be at the forefront of ensuring our race cars meet the highest standards. Your expertise in composite inspection, preparation, repairs, and refinishing will directly contribute to our success on the track. This role offers the chance to combine your technical skills with a passion for motorsports.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position requires some oversight and discipline to work autonomously. Daily activities depend on priorities and direction from the bodywork manager, shop manager and chief mechanics
- Post event underwing re-finishing and preparation
- Work with chief mechanic(s) on bodywork and underwing inspection and repair plan
- Work with chief mechanic on underwing and sidepod build specifications
- Assist chief mechanic on livery changes and bodywork wrapping
- Assist race teams to expedite turnarounds
- Repair carbon projects as needed
- All-encompassing car preparation as directed for race or development tests
- Support extra car efforts at race and test events as needed
- Assist your chief mechanic with tracking of car related parts, spares, and options
- As directed by the shop manager complete work to meet scheduled deadlines
- Work in conjunction with mechanics and team, to ensure completion and security of work performed on car
- Work closely with team members to prepare all the cars the same
- Support loading and unloading of vehicles, spares, support equipment and garage/tent area set up and teardown
- Ensure car preparation and appearance is to RLL standards
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- Basic knowledge of rule book
- Understanding of all manufacturer team manuals or “Mechabooks”
- Manufacturer technical bulletins
- RLL procedures and car preparation
- Proper knowledge and use of mechanics tools and procedures including:
- Set up tools—including set up pad
- NDT testing-Magnaflux and Zyglo
- Measuring tools—Vernier calipers and micrometers
- Basic understanding of metal and machine tools including: sanders, lathe, mill, welder, drills - hand and bench, punches, press, etc.
- You may be required to travel to events as the schedule dictates. Primarily you will be shop based.
