Experience Level:
Junior
Desired Job Role:
Mechanical Engineering
Experience:
The bulk of my experience has been in rotating equipment to date.
July 2021 - 2022: I completed a 1-year internship as a Maintenance and Projects Engineer on a lubricants plant. I had my first real taste of applying data analysis to solve problems when I used the site steam boiler fuel consumption rates, to motivate for CAPEX, on a plant-wide steam piping project to reduce inefficiencies.
July 2022 - 2024: I then joined a Mechanical seal manufacturing company for a graduate program. My first year was an application engineering rotation, in which I focused on driving technical proposals for seals and piping systems that would meet customer RFQs and Technical Specifications (API 682 etc.). This involved design and material selection through to performance and thermodynamic calculations.
March 2024: I'm currently in my Digital Reliability Engineering rotation, which focuses on the monitoring and analysis of data from the mechanical seals on continuously operating pumps and compressors. The seals on these assets have sensors attached and embedded which collect data for various operating metrics and I've thoroughly enjoyed the process of cleaning formatting, visualising and applying statistical methods in order to understand and communicate the operation and health of the seal.
