Onsite: This is a third shift position (11pm to 7:30am) that requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis. The Role We are seeking an Operations Group Leader to oversee 3rd shift operations at the Wallace Battery Cell Innovation Center (WBCIC) in Warren, MI. This is a working group lead position, so if one of your team members is on vacation it is expected that the group lead will fill in to perform the work. You will need to work cross functionally across multiple groups: product engineers, manufacturing engineers, facilities, other operations teams, emergency services many levels. The 3rd shift Group Leader is also responsible for cross shift/team communication supporting a 24/7 operation. This is a people leader position with responsibility for leading operations technicians working on 3rd shift. The 3rd Shift Group Lead will also be the point of contact to respond to alarms or machine issues at the Battery System Lab in Estes on the Warren Tech Center Campus. What You'll Do People Leader Work with 1st and 2nd shift counterparts to sustain and develop standard work for the battery cell build, test, storage, etc. Fulfill Operations Readiness for all lab functions. Utilize knowledge, relationships, and authority to support operation objectives. Manage team member performance and accountability. Interview and hire new team members when necessary. Process Validation Work with project engineers and 1st and 2nd shift counterparts to optimize cell build processes for Cost, Responsiveness, and Quality. Coordinate 3rd shift work tasks to ensure quality and on schedule cell build events. Provide leadership and GMS implementation engaging additional support as required Training Develop and execute technician training on 3rd shift to ensure capability to support build/testing ramp up. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) 4-year degree or equivalent experience related to 1st level leadership in a testing or manufacturing environment High level of computer, written, and oral communication skills High level of analytical ability where problems are unusually difficult Exercises independent judgment in managing complex and ambiguous tasks with minimal input from supervisor Must excel at problem solving – root cause, containment, and robust long-term solutions Understanding of lean manufacturing concepts and the ability to implement these concepts Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to lead diverse/cross-functional teams as well as mentor, motivate and elicit work output from peers and other team members. Demonstrates ability to attain results while balancing business imperatives (SPQRCE) Strong organizational skills for navigating GM administrative and engineering systems and tools used by teams and those who collaborate with work teams.
